Venice's Grand Historic Water Pageant
Held annually on the first Sunday of September, the Regata Storica is the main event in the Venetian rowing calendar. The event opens with a spectacular historical water parade (*Corteo Storico*) featuring faithful 16th-century style boats carrying costumed dignitaries, including the Doge and the Dogaresa.
Competitive Rowing Regattas
Following the historical parade, four competitive rowing races take place along the Grand Canal using traditional Venetian wooden craft (*gondolini*, *pupparini*, and *caorline*). Rowers stand in classic Voga alla Veneta style, propelling boats through Venice's historical waterways.
