Artistic Water Illumination on Historical Canals
Every winter, the canals of Amsterdam transform into an open-air light art museum. Dozens of custom light sculptures designed by contemporary international architects and visual artists line the waters of the Herengracht and Oosterdok.
Unlike standard static parades, spectator boats move along the canal circuit while illuminated sculptures float directly on the water surface or suspend under historic stone bridges.
Best Ways to Experience the Parade
Visitors can experience the festival either by reserving heated open-top or enclosed electric canal cruises, or by walking along the 6.5 km water route along the canal belt bridges.
